Sleep quality determines trip quality. Poor sleep turns good locations into frustrating experiences.
The most important factor is insulation from the ground. A high-quality sleeping pad or camp bed prevents heat loss and reduces pressure points. Many campers underestimate this and focus only on sleeping bags.
Choose sleeping bags rated for nighttime temperatures, not daytime highs. Moisture management is also critical—keep bedding dry and ventilated.
Campsite selection matters. Avoid low areas, uneven ground, and wind exposure. These factors are discussed further in How to Set Up a Comfortable Campsite.
Better sleep leads to better days. It’s that simple.
